The Quran is a sacred book of light that has enriched the lives of Muslims and people around the world for over a thousand years. Suzane Derani is an educator with extensive experience teaching history to high school students in private school, and over twenty years of experience teaching memorization of the Quran as well as its accompanying sciences, tajweed and tafseer. She holds a degree in the recitation of the Quran and memorization from the late esteemed Syrian scholar and Quran expert, Abul Hasan al-Kurdi. With her traditional training and classical teaching experience, Suzane has taught multi-level individualized and group classes for children, teens and adults on the different sciences of the Quran. Additionally, she has held motivational workshops for teens and women on how to excel in their Quran studies.
In her free time, Suzane loves horseback riding, hiking, and rock climbing. She has pursued training in the English style of horse riding for over two years, as well as in rock climbing as a certified instructor. She also loves reading books, visiting coffee shops and practicing Arabic calligraphy. She currently lives in the Bay Area, California, with her family, and homeschools her children while teaching the Quran privately.
About the Illustrator
Jenny Reynish is an artist and illustrator working mainly in children’s publishing and has created a wide variety of illustrations for US and UK publishers. Her individual and decorative style was sparked by a Persian rug from Isfahan, inherited from her aunt. She loves the colors and decorative patterns of the Middle East and India, and finds much inspiration from living by the sea. She works in watercolor, oil, and linoprint.
